My newest MH venture :] After receiving much slack from an icky part of the Monster High community/fandom (some collectors believe customizers don't "deserve" to own these dolls as much as they do) I felt even more motivated to work on this girl. Her sculpt is my very favorite, yet! It's really detailed and makes for a gorgeous face <3
(late reply here, sorry!) Yes, unfortunately there's always an overzealous and more vocal crowd in every 'fandom'. This particular group was especially adamant to the thought of customizers. It baffled me because, aside from the dolls obviously being mass produced and purchased by their owner, the hobby of painting dolls has been around as long as dolls themselves These people made no sense, and it's sad to know most of them were adults or old enough to know better, even children complimented me on my work, they didn't resort to berating me.
*facepalm* Oh, that's mortifying -- I hate knowing that there are people like that in the hobby!
(I collect, AND customize, AND buy customs -- seriously, people, this is not defacing the Mona Lisa! I don't care for poorly-done customs, especially of rare dolls, but it's their owner's prerogative to do with them as they wish . . . and your customs are STUNNING, so making that "argument" would hold no water anyway!)
I know that sometimes it's hard seeing other people have dolls you want (c'mon, I'm a BJD collector, this is a fact of life!), and it's extra-hard when they make changes to them that you don't like, because you want the doll and they're not the changes you would have made . . . but a healthy, well-adjusted person would be able to realize that neither the doll nor its images belong to them, and therefore they should STFU and just grumble quietly to themselves if they're displeased with what a collector or customizer chose to do with their own dolls.
Aside from responding to this (I'm so sorry that you had to experience negativity about your creations, so I wanted to say something), I also wanted to tell you that your Rochelle is actually my favorite Rochelle custom (I'm usually a fan of her default makeup over what most people have done with her, but you preserved the spirit of the original while still making her beautiful and unique), and that I love your dolls (and covet your side-glance CaM werewolf!!)
Thanks, ashbet :] my sentiments exactly! Luckily, this minority of unreasonably entitled people has stopped being so vocal. The worse part is that most, if not all, of the people I noticed bad-mouthing customs were adults- and their arguments were incredibly nonsensical.
Thanks again, dear! I ended up removing the face-up of this Rochelle (this was when I realized squishing the head during rerooting was causing cracks in the sealant) but she'll be re-done soon ^^
She looks absolutely adorable! I love the lips
